Oh my, have I lapsed in my posts! Its been a wild couple of weeks so I'll try to break it down without getting verbose.
Around the last week of April, which just so happened to include Jonathan's birthday, I spent a little time in Chicago. I was in town to work in the Chicago office and spent most free time wandering about. The temps were in the 50s but strangely enough I wasn't cold. Cool yes, but quite comfortable. I thought for sure going from record temps of 105 on Sunday to 45 on Monday would have me bundled up, but most of the time I walked about the city with a lighter coat than most commuters.
My adventures within the area were pretty simple. I wandered to the park one day, went to the museum shop on another, and made an unmotivated stroll through the vast shopping district. The part of town where the office is, happens to be an area where we stayed for my friend Meghan's wedding, so it was remotely familiar. My hotel was across the river, about a block from the water, next to the honeycomb condos. On a few of the mornings I enjoyed a run along the river before work, which was a fantastic way to start the day. I'll admit I started losing motivation to be adventurous but on one of my evenings I came across one of the most photo worthy street curbs I've ever seen. I mean honest, look at this thing.
The following Monday my dental escapades began. I'll keep it somewhat brief, but lets just say in the course of 3 visits I've already exhausted my pathetic excuse for dental insurance. My last visit lasted 4 hours, but turned out well, given its potential for worse. The time was spent working on three teeth. One tooth had a filling that needed to be removed and was in need of a crown. Coincidentally the two teeth surrounding this little beast also needed fillings and were borderline root canals. I say borderline because the dentist would not know until he started working.
The silver lining, no pun intended, is that neither tooth required a root canal, and despite the amount of work, both fillings went well and my teeth are on the road to good health. Throughout the procedure my dentist takes photos of the cavity, then of the repaired teeth using a camera like wand that magnifies the funk. Viewing magnified tooth decay is not pretty, but I appreciate the extra education and find it has inspired me to floss like its my job. I have another visit this upcoming Monday for my permanent porcelain crown placement as well as a few more minor fillings. Its been difficult not taking my weak teeth as a reflection of some sort of personal failing, and the last appointment was quite physically exhausting, but I'm trying to stay positive and be thankful to have a good dentist.
On a much brighter note, our friends, Scott and Bekke just had their first baby! Little Ms. Vivian came into this world at 9.5 lbs, healthy as could be and with a full head of hair. Baby and momma are doing well, and all, including Yager, are adjusting to a bit of a new routine. Jonathan and I had been anticipating what we referred to as the "Yager call" for a few weeks since Vivian's arrival was a week and a half past her due date, and were happy to have Yager hangout with us while Scott and Bekke were at the hospital. Just yesterday we stopped by to help with some BBQ equipment and got to see Vivian on her first week anniversary. All are doing well despite the lack of sleep that comes with a new bundle of joy.
Seeing that its been a while and the subjects are mighty mixed, I think I'll call a halt to this post and continue on tomorrow.
